For me, and average day starts at 5:15am when my mom and dad’s alarm goes off.  This is my signal to leave my cozy nest beside their bed and go cuddle with them!  We get one snooze together and boy do I enjoy it.  After that I go out to potty and then run back up stairs to snooze in the bathroom while they shower (although recently I’ve begun to prefer the warmth of a nice soft bed instead of the cold bathroom floor).  After they are dressed, me and dad go downstairs to make coffee and I get breakfast.  He gives me a whole cup of food, but I’m a lady and don’t gobble it down at one time.  I’m a grazer and will come back to it throughout the day.  Next, I’m mamma’s Holy Spirit with fur by scratching her on the leg until she sits down in her customary quiet time futon…where I snooze on her lap.  Mamma leaves me on our futon so she can go eat with dad and I snooze a bit more.  While they are eating I mosey down stairs to chew on my bone or another toy from my basket.

At least once during breakfast I scratch on the door like I have to go out to potty, but when they open it for me, I just stand there and smell the world to make sure all is well.  They usually try to push me out, but I won’t budge.  Maybe by the second or third time, I’ll go out for a bit, but not for long.  Dad usually finishes eating first and then we get to cuddle on the floor while mom finished eating.  When the time comes for her to go to work me and dad go to the front door to wave bye-bye to her.  She always waves back!  Then I make sure to help dad with his sanctification by making sure he gets his quiet time in (I scratch him until he gets in our chair where I can nap on his lap).

When he’s done, he’ll leave me in the chair while he works for a while, but eventually I get up and I’m ready to play.  I run around the house and play by myself some.  I’m pretty good about not chewing stuff they say I’m not supposed to, but if I find something new and they’ve not said otherwise…it’s mine!  Well, I guess there are a few things I’m bad about always going for.  I just love used Q-tips and tissues.  They are oh so tasty.  Silly mom and dad always close up the bathrooms so I can’t get to them.  Speaking of closed doors, those two silly people will sometime close my rope up in a room and leave it in there!  They can’t fool me, I always know exactly where my rope is and if there is a door between me and it, that silly door better watch out!

When I’m ready to really play, I go get a toy and put it in dad’s lap.  He usually does not respond to this, so I growl and bark at him.  Then I scratch him and he gets mad.  Finally, if he still isn’t playing with me, I pee on the floor to show him whose boss.  Most of the time, he’ll pay me some attention before I have to resort to this.  Sometimes he’ll just throw my toy from where he’s working and I’ll go get it.  Other times, he’ll take me out back and we’ll play fetch for a while.  Another thing he does sometimes is put me in a “down-stay” and I lay there and either sleep or moan at him until he’s ready to play.  Sometimes during the mid morning, he’ll let me go play by myself in the back yard.  This is my favorite poopie time.  It’s nice and calm, the sun is still low in the sky, all is at peace.  Its got the right ambiance for such an important task.

Recently, we’ve started going out running a few times a week.  This is lots of fun, but he’s too slow.  Sometimes we go to the front yard to play (I think he’s really working or something though), and I’m always on my leash or long line because I like to run off to play where it’s not safe.  Mom and dad don’t understand that I have to go check on those silly squirrels that are always taunting me.

When dad goes to work, he takes me out to potty again, gives me a treat (my bacon strips are my favorite) and sticks me in my kennel.  I usually have a towel and a toy with me in there.  My mostest favoritest toy in the world is my rope followed by my hard bone and my good ole buddy Binko (even though he’s a one eared, eyeless, noseless mess, he’s still good to “chew the fat” with).  When dad  gets home, I go out to potty and then I’ll hang around the house.  My favorite spot is at the front window where I can keep watch on the neighborhood.  When the sun is shinning in, it makes a wonderful napping spot.  If I need to get a better perspective on the neighborhood, I run upstairs and stand on top of my and mom’s futon to look out the upstairs window.  I’m a great lookout for dogs, people, squirrels, anything else unusual in the neighborhood.  I go and get mom or dad to show them and I won’t stop barking until they come look and see what I found….and even then there are times that whatever it was is so exciting that I can’t calm myself down….so they help me by putting me in that “down-stay” thingie again.

Mom comes home later and I always know she’s there when I hear the garage door opening.  I start whimpering with excitement!  I always great her really well because I sure missed her!  Mom and dad and I all have dinner at about the same time.  I don’t always finish it…in fact, sometimes I leave some for breakfast the next day (but they always put more on top of it).  Once again, dad finishes eating first, so we get to cuddle more on the floor.  Mom joins us and we have family after-dinner-cuddle time.  It’s great!  I usually get a good tummy rub.  I ask for it by rolling over on my side and lifting a leg.  Yes, I know, not very lady like, but man does that hit the spot!

I start winding down at 7:30 or 8.  I like to make sure to get my naps in before bed time.  If they are watching a movie or something, I may sit in there lap and enjoy some popcorn with them or if I’m tired, I’ll just go get their bed warm for them.  They eventually join me, but before we really settle down, they take me out again to use the bathroom.  Then, I get a few minutes of cuddle time with both of them.  I like to plop right down between them.  Finally, they tie me to the dresser out of reach of the bed, but in reach of my nest, so I plop down and go to sleep.  Sometimes, I get a little restless and dance around some in the night, but mom just tells me to “down” and of course I obey, because I’m an obedient pup, and usually go back to sleep.  In the not-so-distant past, I’d be a stinker and whine or scratch the bed until dad would let me up to sleep with them, but I’m getting better.

Well, that’s a day in my life!  Isn’t it grand!  I sure love my mamma and daddy and I know they love me.  What more could a pup ask for?
